Tehran | Tower
When an official call was issued in 1967 for the design of a tower that would be the emblem of Tehran, no one had the faintest idea that a 24-year-old youth named Hossein Amanat from the city of Kashan would come up with a spectacular design. The three story tower of Azadi 45 m in height was completed in 28 months in west Tehran. The architecture of the tower is fabulous. The main arc in the middle of the tower was inspired by the arch of Kassra in Sassanid period and the broken arc above was designed in line with Islamic architecture. One reason for the erection of the tower in the proximity of Mehr-abad airport was to represent Iranian nation and welcome foreign tourists arriving in Iran.
